Obama Apologizes...

As many people have seen Obama has recently been on the news apologizing to any individuals that are being kicked off their health care plan and for any other issues associated with the new health care bill (Obamacare).  I found this article the other day and it raises a couple questions about the issue.  First, the article states that Obama apologized to congressional democrats for letting them down with the health care bill; however, the bill was approved by Congress.  I am confused as to why he is apologizing to Congressional Democrats when they obviously approved the health care plan.  I understand that Democrats may be more inclined or more able to approve what Obama is introducing but they knew of the bill and could have examined possible outcomes of it.  In addition, I think that Obama is right in apologizing to the American people, but I also find that his apology allows for the bias news media to write that he is stating what a failure Obamacare is and has owned up to being a bad president.  I do not believe he is our worst President and I also do not believe that he needs to take the blame for THE WHOLE Obamacare issues because there are other people that had to sign off on the new health care plan.  What do you think??

  1. I think this is a very important issue and you make some good points. I believe that Obama did the right thing by apologizing to Americans for not being able to keep their plan. I see that as a strong leadership quality. I do, however, disagree with you that Obama shouldn't take blame for the entire thing. As president, everything that happens during his term he gets full credit and full blame. Obama knew that there were going to be issues with the law before it was even passed, but all he was concerned about was actually getting it passed. Congress knew the same thing. It is kind of like the saying "it is better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission." If Obama would have brought attention to these possible issues before it was passed, I do not think that it would have been approved by congress. While I do like that Obama apologized for the issues, I do not think he went far enough. I believe he should have fired Kathleen Sebelius, which many people called for, but he is keeping her in charge of the healthcare.gov website. Nevertheless this was a good post about an important issue that our country is currently facing.

  2. I think that there are a lot of reasons that Obama has to take the blame for this. I don’t know how much you remember about getting this bill passed through Congress but it was UGLY. Obama pushed it through really hard, against the will of the people and to the detriment of many politicians in the Democratic party.

I don’t think that his admission that the ObamaCare rollout has been a blunder is interpreted as him admitting to being a bad president, I think it is the reasonable thing to do. Everyone knows that the ACA was his baby, hence the term ObamaCare, he can’t hand off the project to someone else at this stage of the game.

He also has a political responsibility to his party. The Democrats are going to be up for mid-term elections in 2014, and there will be another presidential election in 2016. At this point he has to do whatever he has to do to preserve the credibility of the party.

I think that you make some valid points that Congress knew what was going to happen, it has also been said that the labor unions who were instrumental in getting this bill passed knew what was going to happen. But as it has unfolded it has had harmful effects on lower ranking people who are angry and betrayed and eligible to vote.

  3. Brigan you also bring up a good point. It was a struggle to get the health care bill approved by Congress in the beginning and if these issues were put on the table I do not believe the bill would have passed.

  4. I think Phenisha is correct in stating that Obama should take the blame for such things. Obama did push hard for this bill to go through and now that it is, there are problems to be found everywhere. There are problems with the website- even though Obama didn't make it himself. There are problems with people losing doctors and their old healthcare. There are a lot of complaints about this and now Obama has had the lowest approval ratings since he has been in office.
